An advanced session designed to look at the guidance and
policy surrounding noise and how it impacts on sustainability.
Obtaining
planning consent where the acoustic environment is characterised with excess
noise is challenging. In 2017 The IOA,
ANC and CIEH produced the Profession Practice Guidance on Planning and Noise
(ProPG). This document promoted, amongst other things, the importance of a
strategic approach to identification of noise issues on problem sites. The Guidance identified key best practice for
addressing the noise issues, and, most importantly, formalised a written
procedure that ensured a transparent and effective means of clearly and
unambiguously reporting noise impacts, and potential solutions, thus maximising
the opportunity for successful planning outcomes.
ProPG
requires that development comply with national planning policy and standards as
well as building regulations and codes of practice relevant to noise (codes E,
F, O) and as such recognises that design implications and mitigation measures
may be necessary to ensure an acceptable acoustic environment. This holistic approach will be summarised in
this session, examples of good practice will be provided, and the key issues
arising will be discussed.
The
session will place ProPG into context and show the interaction with planning
policy, as part of the use a series of case studies to reinforce practical aspects
of ensuring best practice.
On completion of the webinar we expect delegates will have a better
understanding of the principles of Good Design and how to use them in practice
to seek better more sustainable planning outcomes.
The
advanced seminar is aimed at staff who are currently involved in assessment of noise
related impacts for new housing developments. The seminar will be relevant to both newly
qualified professionals, and for individuals who require an update on the most
up-to-date practices for the assessment and management of dust. It will also
provide a useful insight how the ProPG approach can ensure a simple method to
endorse sustainable planning and design, whilst enabling compliance with key
noise standards.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: To undertake the Essential of Noise course, you must nominate a Supervising Officer from your Local Authority. Once enrolled on the course, visit your My Courses page and in the Supervision
box, click "Select supervisor here". Your nominated Supervisor should
be a responsible line manager or mentor who has an interest in your
training development programme and they will be required to verify you
have undertaken the course under appropriate conditions, as part of your
training and development programme.
Once booked, to view the webinar, click on the grey bars below, they will expand to
reveal the links to "Watch the Webinar". Once you have completed
viewing each of the webinars and the online requirements (for Essentials
and Advanced courses, this includes the Knowledge Check and Feedback),
you will then be able to download your CPD (as a PDF file). Remember to
click on the "Complete and Close session" button after viewing each webinar. PLEASE NOTE: if you fail to do this, you will be unable to complete the Knowledge Check, Feedback and obtain your CPD.
